World Martial Arts Center has many upcoming events for our students and school families.

We will also be posting News Bulletins or pertinent information regarding the WMAC schools, our students, our instructors and Grandmaster Ro. The Calendar will also list these items as well. Make sure you print out the school calendar each month for easy reference.

Roxanne Kallberg and Emily Easton from the World Martial Arts Center Competition Team will be competing in the 29th Annual Diamond National Tournament.

WMAC Instructors Train in China with 34th Generation Shaolin Monk  10/17/06  (9:00 AM - 5:00 PM)
WMAC Instructors Mr. Steven Wankewycz and Mr. Patrick Carey traveled to Beijing, China for 9 days of intensive training in Shaolin Kung Fu with Sifu Shi Yan Gao, a 34th Generation Shaolin Monk. Mr. Wankewycz has been training under Sifu Gao for a number of years

Mr. Leo Ramroop Promoted to 8th Dan Grandmaster  4/14/07  (2:00 PM - 6:00 PM)
On Saturday, April 14th Mr. Leo Ramroop was promoted to 8th Dan Grandmaster. Grandmaster Ramroop started at the Karate Center, now called the World Martial Arts Center, in 1967. Congratulations to Grandmaster Ramroop!

2007 Shaolin Bootcamp in China  8/28/07  (9:00 AM - 6:00 PM)
World Martial Arts Center held the 1st Annual WMAC Shaolin Kung Fu Bootcamp in Beijing, China under the instruction of 34th Generation Shaolin Monk Shih Yan Gao. Masters Mike Stein and Bill Murray as well as Head Instructors Tom Baden, Pat Carey and Steve Wankewycz as well Kung Fu Instructor Jason Bergerson attended the intensive training.

Supreme Grandmaster Byung Jik Ro

Supreme Grandmaster Ro Visits WMAC  9/23/07  (5:00 PM - 6:00 PM)
Supreme Grandmaster Byung Jick Ro, Founder of Song Moo Kwan and Modern Taekwondo made a visit to the World Martial Arts Center to review the construction and expansion plan with Mr. Carey and Mr. Wankewycz.

Kukkiwon President hosts Supreme Grandmaster Ro and Grandmaster Ro  10/15/07  (9:00 AM - 6:00 PM)
Supreme Grandmaster Byung Jick Ro and Grandmaster Hee Sang Ro made a visit of the President of the Kukkiwon, Grandmaster Woon Kyu Uhm, shown in this picture with Supreme Grandmaster Ro. Grandmaster Uhm, one of the original students of Chung Do Kwan recalled fondly how Supreme Grandmaster Ro took over teaching at Chung Do Kwan when its Founder, Won Kuk Lee was unable to teach.

Mr. Carey visits Kukkiwon  6/4/08  (9:00 AM - 6:00 PM)
While on business in Korea, Mr. Carey, Head Instructor of the Main School, visited the Kukkiwon, The Headquarters of the World Taekwondo Federation, in Seoul Korea, where he was able to observe a Black Belt class with over 150 Black Belts, including the Korean Tigers. He also visted the Kukkiwon museum. It was his fourth visit to the Kukkiwon.

500th WMAC Promotion Test - Special Guest  8/9/08  (2:00 PM - 6:00 PM)
Master Tom Sullivan, Founder of the Karate North organization, and one of the original students of WMAC (Karate Center!) participated in the 500th Test as a Judge for the Black Belt portion of the test. Master Sullivan's student, Mr. Victor Cooke, of Cooke's Taekwondo in Thunder Bay, Ontario Canada,successfully tested for his 3rd Dan in Taekwondo. Master Inguen Yu and Master Mike Stein also assisted Grandmaster Ro as judges.

2008 Shaolin Bootcamp in China!  8/14/08  (9:00 AM - 6:00 PM)
Mr. Wankewycz and Mr. Carey will once again be hosting a Shaolin Bootcamp Session in China with 34th Generation Shaolin Monk Shih Yan Gao. ^ WMAC Instrcucros and 1 Kung Fu student have signed up. This year the 7 hoyr a day training will take place in both Beijing and at the Shaolin Monastery in the Henan Province.

WMAC Instructors attend Shaolin Qi Gong and Sanshou Workshop  11/14/08  (9:00 AM - 6:00 PM)
WMAC Head Instructors Mr. Steve Wankewycz and Mr. Pat Carey travelled to the Jing Institute of Chinese Martial Arts in San Diego, CA on Nov 14 and 15 to train with 34th Generation Shaolin Monk Shih Yan Lei, who runs the Shaolin Temple in the UK. They trained for 7 hours each day, focusing on Shaolin Qi Gong, Sanshou (Kung Fu fighting techniques) as well as many traditional Kung Fu drills and techniques.

Kukkiwon International Poomsae Seminar  12/7/08  (9:00 AM - 6:00 PM)
Mr. Carey and Mr. Wankewycz, Head Instructors of the World Martial Arts Center, Main School, attended the First Kukkiwon Internation Poomsae Seminar in Dallas, Texas. The 2-day Seminar was conducted by Grandmaster In Sik Hwang, Vice President of Education of the Kukkiwon, and focused on correct execution of the Kukkiwon Tae Guk and Black Belt forms.

Kukkiwon Hanmadang Referee Certification  4/18/09  (9:00 AM - 6:00 PM)
Mr. Carey and Mr. Wankewycz attended the 2 day, 20 hour Kukkiwon Hanmadang National Referee Training and Certification workshop held in Chicago by the Kukkiwon and the US Taekwondo Committee.

Shaolin Bootcamp #6 in Beijing, China  4/23/09  (9:00 AM - 6:00 PM)
Mr. Wankewycz and Mr. Carey travelled to Beijing, China for the 6th WMAC "Shaolin Bootcamp". For 7 days they trained a minimum of 7 hours a day under the direction of Shih Yan Gao, 34th Generation Shaolin Monk. This camp was held at the Tanzhe Temple, built in 300AD, and located in the mountains above Beijing.

1st US National Hanmadang  6/20/09  (9:00 AM - 6:00 PM)
The First US National Hanmadang will be held in Chicago, IL on June 20 and June 21. Mr. Carey and Mr. Wankewycz, Head Instructors at the Main School has been appointed Class 1 Referees by the Kukkiwon and will be attending and refereeing at the first National Hanmadang!

Shaolin Monk

Shaolin Bootcamp 2009 in Beijing China  8/18/09  (9:00 AM - 6:00 PM)
Mr. Wankewycz and Mr. Carey will bring a group of students to Beijing, China for the 7th WMAC "Shaolin Bootcamp". For 7 days they will train under the direction of Shih Yan Gao, 34th Generation Shaolin Monk. This camp will be held at the Tanzhe Temple, built in 300AD, and located in the mountains above Beijing.

Kukkiwon Master's Licensing, Chicago 2009

Kukkiwon Master's Licensing Course  10/25/09  (9:00 AM - 6:00 PM)
Four World Martial Arts Center Head Instructors attended the First Kukkiwon Master Instructor Licensing Course held in the United States and passed the written and physical tests. Mr. Patrick Carey and Mr.Steve Wankewycz from the Main School as well as Master Fred Baker of Quantum Martial Arts and Master Karla Gotham.

Song Moo Kwan Hanmadang - Forms and Breaking Competition  11/7/09  (10:00 AM - 6:00 PM)
The World Martial Arts Center will be hosting the Song Moo Kwan Hanmadang, including a Forms and Breaking Competition, on Saturday, November 7th at the Main School.
